Ihata Shrine

This shrine, located near a river below the road, is one of the ten shrines in the Yoshino district mentioned in the "Engishiki," a document from approximately 1100 years ago. In the past, villagers discovered something shining in Myojin-buchi, a sacred pool behind the shrine. Upon consultation, they brought up a single sword. This sword has been enshrined as the divine object of the local deity. It is said that this sword was once an official sword of Emperor Godaigo. Later, during the upheavals of the late Edo period, known as the Tenchu Gumi Incident, weapons were confiscated in this region, and the sacred sword was also said to have been requisitioned.
