Tenkawa Village cherishes its 1,300 years of history and culture.
Numerous historically important figures visited this village such as emperors, including Emperor Temmu (a.k.a. Imperial Prince Oama; 7th century) and Emperor Godaigo (1288-1339) who resided in the Southern Court set in this region in the mid-14th century. Buddhist saints such as Kobo Daishi Kukai (774-835) and Enku (1632-1695) as well as Motomasa Kanze (15th century; a prominent Noh performer), Michizane Sugawara (845-903; a Heian-period court officer and scholar), and Saigyo (1118-1190; a legendary monk and poet), have all visited this area.

About 1,300 years ago, En-no Gyoja, a 7th-century ascetic, founded Shugendo, otherwise known as mountain asceticism. Tenkawa Village has flourished as a part of the fundamental training center of Shugendo since then.

Dorogawa Hot Spring Center
The building is made of Yoshino cedar and the bathtub is made of Japanese cypress. Enjoy and relax in the soft and comfortable hot spring water.
Tennokawa Hot Spring Center
The building is made of fine wood, including a pillar made of a large maple tree at the entrance. The hot spring water contains ingredients that are said to make the skin moist and smooth.
Tenkawa Herbal Bath Center “Mizuha-no Yu”
An open-air bath with medicinal hot spring containing medicinal herbs including locally grown Toki. Enjoy the view of the waterfall and clear stream from the bath.

Some car navigation system route settings show a route over Kominami Pass via Pref.
Road #48 Dorogawa Shimoichi Line and Nakato in Kurotaki Village.
However, the road is very narrow and rough, and there are many places where navigating oncoming traffic is difficult.
