Dorogawa Hot Spring Town
The town of Dorogawa Onsen hot spring has flourished as a mountain climbing base for the worship of Mount Omine, alongside the prosperity of Shugendo (mountain asceticism). The open verandas were designed to allow many yamabushi (mountain ascetics) to ascend to inns at once. It is said to be the village of descendants of the Goki, who accompanied En-no Gyoja (founder of Shugendo). Inns, guesthouses, souvenir shops, Daranisuke stores (herbal medicine) and other stores line the streets. During the opening period of the mountain, the unique scene of yamabushi blowing conch shells and leading a procession, making the sound with a tin stick and bell, can be seen. At night, lanterns light up, creating a fantastical atmosphere different from the daytime. Take a leisurely stroll in yukata attire and immerse yourself in the ambiance of the hot spring town.
